About.

Hi, I’m Shan. I cook real food at home and write it down clearly enough that you can cook it too – with nothing in the way.

Why I made this site

I started InstantVeg, a vegan recipe blog, in 2020. I guess you could say it was my covid project. Two years later, just as the site was really starting to shine, I started working full-time in education.

As I took on more and more responsibility at work, I had less and less time for everything else. I had no time for InstantVeg, and even worse, I had almost no time or energy to cook.

Our diet at home got worse as we ate more fast food. Honestly, I just felt sad about it, because I love to cook.

Slowly, I learned how to make time to meal prep lunches and snacks ahead of time. I also started looking for recipes I could make even when I came home completely drained.

That’s a big part of what Ad-Free Cook is about – real food you can still make at the end of a long day. It grew out of InstantVeg, and now there’s room for more than just vegan cooking.

Mostly, I just want to make something good. Something that’s actually useful, and that makes life a little bit easier for anyone who wants to cook at home.

Why there are no ads

First of all, ads are annoying. Nobody wants to be talked into asking their doctor about a prescription while they’re trying to make soup!

Ads also make recipes hard to follow. The page jumps around while you’re looking for the next step, a video starts playing on its own, and the ingredient list gets buried between banners. Most of the time, a recipe page loaded with ads crashes my phone before I even get to the ingredients.

Besides, I don’t need them. It doesn’t cost that much to run a food blog, so there’s no reason to fill the page with ads just to pay for the site.

Leaving ads out also means nothing here follows you around the internet after you leave.

Thanks for being here

If a recipe becomes one of your regulars, you can leave a tip or share it with a friend – that’s what keeps this site running.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you find something yummy to make tonight.
